Reflection - Digital Media
The manner that
education is offered and received in educational institutions around the globe
has been changed by digital media. Digital media is becoming a necessary tool
for students and educators at every grade level, from primary school to
secondary. The benefits of using digital media in secondary schools are vast
and varied, ranging from making the material more accessible to fostering
collaboration and communication between students and educators.
A digital media
platform called Stile offers secondary school students access to educational
materials. With a variety of resources, tools, and features to support learning
and academic performance, it is an interactive and captivating online learning
environment. The following is a short two-minute video on how Stile works in
the classroom and some of the advantages the platform offers.
For secondary school
students, Stile offers curriculum-aligned coursework in a variety of topics,
including science, math, and English. It is aligned with the national standards
and is frequently updated to reflect curricular changes because the content is
created to support the Australian Curriculum. The information is provided in an
interactive, visually appealing way that engages students and supports their
learning. The interactive learning resources offered by Stile are one of its
main advantages. The platform provides a variety of interactive exercises that
encourage student interaction with the material and application of their
knowledge, such as simulations, films, and quizzes. The interactive exercises
are made to be entertaining and instructive, and they aid in reinforcing the
ideas covered in class. Because Stile is intended to be a student-centred
learning platform, it is tailored to each student's specific needs.
Students can use a variety
of materials and tools on the platform to tailor their learning experiences.
Students can work at their own pace and according to their own schedules, or
they can access additional resources and materials to help their learning. Students
are given immediate feedback and evaluations through Stile, which helps to
maintain their interest and motivation. Teachers may track student progress and
give comments using the platform's variety of assessment tools, which include
tests, quizzes, and assignments. Also, students can get immediate feedback on
their work, which aids them in determining what needs to be improved. What's
more, Stile encourages group projects and assignments, so students can
collaborate on these tasks. Students can cooperate and communicate with one
another using a variety of collaborative features provided by the platform,
including shared workspaces and discussion boards. Students benefit by
developing crucial social and communication skills as well as a sense of
belonging and support. Stile offers teachers resources and support, enabling
them to deliver efficient and interesting classes. Lesson plans, worksheets,
and exams are just a few of the teacher tools available on the platform that
instructors can use to enhance their in-class instruction. Teachers can fully
utilise the platform’s functionalities thanks to the platform's support and
training resources.
Stile adheres to several aspects of the SAMR model. By offering digital versions of traditional instructional materials, it helps the substitution level. By providing dynamic and interesting learning tools that improve the learning process, it is in line with the augmentation level. By offering collaborative learning tools that let students collaborate on projects and tasks, it adheres to the modification level. Although it does not entirely adhere to the redefinition level, it does have some aspects that complement it, such as interactive learning resources that give students access to opportunities that would not have been feasible without technology.

To protect students' safety
and welfare when using Stile or any other digital media platform, it's critical
to consider several ethical, moral, and legal guidelines. Get the permission of
the parents before utilising Stile with students. Inform parents of the
classroom's planned usage of Stile and the precautions being taken to protect
their children's privacy and safety. Use strong passwords, encryption, and
other security measures to protect student privacy. Make sure that student
information is securely stored and that only authorised individuals can access
it. Verify that all the materials used in Stile adhere to copyright
regulations. Use only public domain or items that have been granted a licence
for educational purposes. Always give correct credit and seek all required
permissions when using copyrighted works. Encourage digital citizenship by
instructing pupils on responsible and secure online conduct. Inform students on
internet safety, cyberbullying, and other issues related to digital
citizenship.
To make sure that students
are using Stile properly and safely, keep an eye on internet activities. Use
resources like the Stile Analytics Dashboard to track student development and
spot potential problems. Provide specific instructions on how to use Stile in
the classroom. Set guidelines for appropriate usage and sanctions for abuse.
Make sure that the students are aware of the rules and requirements for using
Stile. To prevent students from being exposed to unsuitable material, use
age-appropriate content in Stile. Make sure that every piece of content
utilised in Stile adheres to academic requirements and is appropriate for the student’s
age and maturity. By promoting an inclusive and respectful culture, you can
create a secure learning environment. Ensure that every student feels included,
appreciated, and has a say in the educational process. Teachers may make sure
that students are using Stile in a secure, moral, and legal manner by adhering
to these guidelines. These guidelines encourage safe online behaviour and
assist students in acquiring the abilities necessary to succeed in the digital
age.
In conclusion, Stile is a
comprehensive digital media network that offers secondary school students’
instructional resources. It provides curriculum-aligned content, engaging
learning tools, student-centred instruction, continuous assessment and
feedback, collaborative learning, and instructor resources and assistance.
Stile is a useful tool for both students and teachers because of these
properties, which encourage learning and enhance academic results.

A fantastic and in depth look at the Stile app. I'm sure your knowledge of this will help you go a long way in your teaching, great work.
ReplyDeleteHello Sherryn, Thank you for a comprehensive blog on Stile. It's a platform that I didn't have much knowledge about, but sounds like a great educational tool; the teacher lesson plans and resources are also a great bonus. Perhaps my only minor suggestion to your blog could be to include mention of other digital media platforms that could be used in secondary school. Well done and good luck for your third reflection.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback Alex, I will take on board what you have said and hope to see more comments from you on my future posts.
